1st Annual Southeast SUP Championships September 26, 2009
Despite heavy winds and rain, the 1st Annual Southeast SUP Championships went off yesterday. The bad weather couldn’t dampen the participants’ spirits as over 50 paddlers paddled the race. Racers from Hawaii, California, Florida and Virginia joined local paddlers all in search of the crown.
Organized by Coastal Urge the 1st Annual Southeast SUP Championship was held on September 26th 2009. The 3.5mile race was held at Dockside Restaurant in Wilmington, NC on the Intracoastal Waterway. Surftech was the title sponsor for the SE SUP Championship, which brought racers as far away as; Hawaii, California, and Florida.

Jeremy Riggs ended up claiming the title, “SOUTHEAST SUP CHAMPION”, finishing with a time of 41.18 minutes. The temperatures were low, but just like the winds during the race, the stoke remained high throughout the day.

- Racers gathered for last minute course debriefing before heading out to the start line of the 3.5 mile course
